Global Counsel, the political consultancy co-established by Peter Mandelson, is severing connections with the ex-Labour minister following his removal as Britain’s US ambassador after the emergence of his associations with Jeffrey Epstein.

The consultancy, which provides guidance to some of the globe’s largest corporations on regulatory and political threats, has commenced the sale of Mandelson’s multimillion-pound interest and anticipates finishing the process within two months.

Mandelson, a prominent player in Tony Blair’s administration who resigned twice from governmental roles before being reinstated as Northern Ireland secretary, co-established Global Counsel in 2010 alongside Benjamin Wegg-Prosser. He distanced himself from the company after being appointed by prime minister Keir Starmer as envoy to Washington in December, but Companies House documents indicate he still possesses a 21 percent share. He stepped down as a director in May of the previous year.

The demand to sever arrangements grew stronger after emails emerged outlining Mandelson’s close ties to Epstein, whom he once referred to as his “closest friend.” The exchanges included a proposal that Epstein’s initial conviction be contested. An image of Mandelson in a white bathrobe with Epstein has further escalated the uproar.

Global Counsel lists JP Morgan, Barclays, OpenAI, Anglo American, Shein and TikTok among its clientele, with its vice-chair being Marks & Spencer chairman Archie Norman. The organization opted not to comment on these developments.

Mandelson also chose not to provide comment when approached by Bloomberg and the Financial Times.
