Even the smallest entities can create a significant impact in the business realm.

Such seems to be the situation with San Carlos City in the province of Pangasinan. While it is regarded as the least expansive city in Pangasinan by land area, it possesses the highest population. This results in a plentiful array of opportunities for the local government alongside corporate investors and entrepreneurs such as Wilcon Depot.

    Why San Carlos City?

Data indicates that in just the last five years, the advancements in San Carlos City have been markedly notable. The growth has been rooted in infrastructure improvements, including the expansion and drainage of the Pangasinan Link Expressway (PLEX). Official materials from the province’s website disclose that over P698 million has been allocated to “support the construction, upkeep, and enhancement of provincial and barangay roads and bridges in 2024.” Furthermore, the city has formed numerous collaborations with top companies in the country. The economic growth figures of Pangasinan have surged, with San Carlos City contributing substantially to the increasing revenue and municipality initiatives. The province’s website mentions plans for approximately 5,000 housing units commencing this year, while the citizens are demonstrating a robust form of urban preparedness.

Strong infrastructure and connectivity, including provincial roads and upgraded bridges, facilitate easy access to highways and surrounding urban areas. Additionally, the city boasts a dynamic and youthful population that continues to grow. According to the 2020 census, official statistics revealed that the city’s populace was around 205,000, predominantly young — a significant increase from approximately 188,000 in 2015.

Celebrating a new chapter in the province’s steady ascent, Wilcon’s latest outlet in San Carlos, Pangasinan symbolizes growth, resilience, and community-driven advancement. The ceremonial ribbon-cutting of the 104th branch was performed by (L-R) Wilcon Depot AVP for Sales and Operations Harvy Cruz; Francis Lazaro; San Carlos City, Pangasinan Vice-Mayor Joseres S. Resuello; Wilcon Depot President and CEO Lorraine Belo-Cinchocan; San Carlos City, Pangasinan Mayor Julier C. Resuello; Representative of Congresswoman Rachel Arenas; Malasiqui, Pangasinan Councilor Vincent Arenas; HCG Distributorship Manager Paul Wu; Malasiqui, Pangasinan Councilor Jessica Gueco; and San Pedro-Taloy Brgy. Captain Juanito Aquino, who helped celebrate this milestone in San Carlos.

    Wilcon’s 104th

Considering all these details and the opportunities they entail, it’s no surprise that Wilcon Depot, the leading home improvement company in the nation, opened its third outlet in this thriving province. San Carlos City is the latest home for Wilcon Depot, marking its 104th location in the country. Wilcon’s strategy of hiring staff from the local population would significantly benefit San Carlos City, which could use a lift in employment rates. Wilcon’s corporate ethos includes training and enhancing the skills of available local labor. This approach would be greatly appreciated by the local government unit (LGU).

San Carlos City is also bustling with urban demand for housing and retail, an evident opportunity which holds promise for both Wilcon and the local community and its builders. Construction and wholesale/retail are primary growth engines. In 2023 alone, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported that Pangasinan experienced a 6.3% growth, amounting to P375.31 billion. Moreover, prominent contributors among the considered industries included construction, wholesale and retail trade, and manufacturing. Clearly, these are sectors where a Wilcon Depot in San Carlos City can play a supportive role.

This is why not even the torrential monsoon rains could delay the grand launch of Wilcon Depot in San Carlos City on July 25. The event was graced by San Carlos City, Pangasinan Mayor Hon. Julier C. Resuello; Vice-Mayor Hon. Joseres S. Resuello; the representative of Congresswoman Hon. Rachel Arenas; Malasiqui, Pangasinan Councilors Hon. Vincent Arenas and Hon. Jessica Gueco; San Pedro-Taloy Brgy. Captain Hon. Juanito Aquino; HCG Distributorship Manager Paul Wu; as well as Wilcon executives — AVPs for Sales and Operations Harvy Cruz and Francis Lazaro, and Wilcon Depot President and CEO Lorraine Belo-Cincochan.

In her statement, Ms. Belo-Cincochan remarked, “When we envisioned establishing a presence in San Carlos, it was not merely about adding another branch. It was about providing access, not just in terms of location accessibility, but also access to premium-quality merchandise, dependable service, and an extensive range of options for every Filipino household.

    Win-Win

Overall, the new large-format Wilcon Depot in San Carlos City is set to be a beneficial business reality. It opens avenues for job opportunities for builders, electricians, store supervisors, salespersons, and warehouse staff among the local labor pool. Wilcon’s establishment contributes to government revenues and brings various economic advantages.

Additionally, local contractors and even small-scale builders will gain easier access to necessary supplies and home improvement items, potentially reducing construction expenses and promoting more construction and home projects. This will create a multiplier effect that could positively influence construction endeavors citywide.

From the perspective of business proprietors, San Carlos City offers a growing customer base. From the viewpoint of the local government, Wilcon’s presence in the city will enhance employment figures and increase revenue. More importantly, for the residents and nearby builders, regardless of size, Wilcon in San Carlos City represents improved retail choices, alongside a vast assortment of home improvement essentials all within easy reach. It would not be shocking if San Carlos City experiences a considerable economic uplift in the coming years, supported by the establishment of Wilcon Depot in the city.

As Wilcon’s SEVP and COO Rosemarie Bosch Ong aptly stated, “We will continue to establish stores closer to all Filipinos. That’s because

It’s not merely structures that we assist in constructing. We’re engaged in fostering stronger, more durable, and safer communities in harmony with every Filipino’s aspiration. Wilcon Depot stands with every Filipino. In every season. And for all the most commendable reasons.”

That surely represents a mutually beneficial partnership in various capacities for Wilcon and San Carlos City.
