GCash emphasizes the importance of insurance in fostering security and assurance among Filipinos through GInsure
An inclusive and robust future is achievable only by implementing solutions that address all segments of society, including those who are typically overlooked. In a world where risks may manifest in diverse ways, insurance provides remedies that cater to consumers’ requirements for security while empowering and safeguarding them financially.
In an expanding digital economy like the Philippines, consumers increasingly favor services that are straightforward, immediate, and accessible. Insurance should align with this expectation. Insurance offerings and other financial services are adapting to meet the rising demand by becoming more easily accessible via digital platforms.
During one of the panel discussions at this year’s BusinessWorld Economic Forum, GCash Insurance Partnerships and Business Development Head Jay Young highlighted why digital insurance is essential for cultivating financial inclusion and a sustainable future for the Philippines.
GCash, the leading financial super app in the nation, offers insurance products that are affordable and encompass a broad spectrum of consumer demands through GInsure. Initiated in 2021, GInsure makes protection merely a tap away, featuring 58 insurance products customized for various lifestyles, encompassing personal accidents, medical services, and beyond.
Currently, GInsure has successfully provided coverage for approximately 20 million users with 55 million policies. Out of 90 million registered users of the app, around 60 million qualify for its insurance offerings. The platform enables insurance products to be available at the tap of a button, collaborating with 15 premier insurance providers, including Singlife Philippines, Sun Life, and Standard Insurance, among others, to safeguard Filipinos.
Over the years, GCash has become intricately woven into Filipinos’ everyday lives, and GInsure intends to achieve the same. As Mr. Young noted, the average Filipino acquires mobile load credits weekly. Consequently, GCash offers complimentary health and accident insurance coverage for up to seven days to users who purchase mobile load via the platform.
Furthermore, he emphasized how GCash aims to pave the way for Filipinos to attain security and assurance through insurance.
“We’re offering complimentary insurance with the expectation that they will grasp this micro insurance product, enabling them to develop a deeper understanding of how insurance functions, and eventually acquire more comprehensive coverage for themselves. We desire to be part of that journey with our users,” Mr. Young stated.
Beyond insurance, Mr. Young also pointed out how GCash facilitates inclusive and resilient development among various communities, as he observed fisherfolk enjoying the advantages of the app’s e-wallet functionalities and perks like the GCash card.
“For them, [the GCash card] represents the first time something tangible has been designated after them. They view it as a key or portal to financial opportunities. Inclusion can be as straightforward as that. We realized at GCash that inclusion should initiate with small gestures, [like in] encouraging users of the app to take pride in what they possess. Once they experience that, they feel included,” Mr. Young remarked.
