During the MIT Bitcoin Expo last month, I had the opportunity to converse with Bitcoin Core contributor Sjors Provoost.
Sjors is a physicist who transitioned to becoming a Bitcoin developer, a transformation that is, surprisingly, quite common. He began his contributions to Bitcoin Core in 2017, a notably turbulent period marked by the activation of Segregated Witness amid the climax of the block size conflicts involving the User Activated Softfork and the New York Agreement.
He is also the co-host of Bitcoin, Explained, a podcast produced alongside Aaron van Wirdum, the present Editor in Chief of Bitcoin Magazine. Most recently, he authored the book Bitcoin: A Work In Progress, which elucidates the technical facets of Bitcoin. Each chapter corresponds with an episode of the podcast.
We discussed the Bitcoin Core project itself, covering its structure, the experience of working on it, and various challenges that may arise for those who decide to dive into direct contributions to Bitcoin Core.
