The Ethereum Foundation, the charity organization cultivating the Ethereum framework, is redirecting its priorities toward user engagement and layer-1 scalability obstacles following its leadership transition in March.
On April 21, co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, Tomasz Stańczak posted an update on X outlining how the organization has evolved since its shift in leadership.
According to Stańczak, the alteration is intended to allow Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin more opportunity for research and discovery instead of managing daily operations and crises.
“Whenever Vitalik imparts knowledge or delineates a strategy, he propels significant long-term advancements,” he mentioned.
Stańczak remarked that Buterin’s recent communications had fostered innovative pathways and assisted in reorienting the community towards the organization’s fundamental principles.
Vitalik Buterin addresses Ethereum privacy and speed
On March 1, the Ethereum Foundation disclosed that its principal researcher Hsiao-Wei Wang along with Stańczak, the CEO of Nethermind, were appointed as co-directors of the organization effective March 17.
Since the adjustments in the organization’s leadership framework, Buterin has withdrawn from routine management. He has since released proposals tackling the Ethereum network’s privacy and performance constraints.
On April 11, the Ethereum co-founder revealed a roadmap for privacy concerning the network. In this communication, Buterin suggested incorporating features that anonymize user transactions, advocating that these features should be “preferably activated by default.”
In addition to transaction privacy, Buterin also released a post discussing Ethereum’s speed and efficacy. On April 20, Buterin suggested a modification to the Ethereum Virtual Machine’s (EVM) contract language aimed at enhancing the efficiency and speed of the blockchain’s execution layer.
Stańczak indicated that although Buterin’s proposals will “always hold significance,” their purpose is to incite discussions and promote advancement in diverse research domains. The executive expressed that the community can refine or dismiss these ideas.

Foundation aims for immediate protocol enhancements
The Ethereum Foundation will redirect much of its research towards “immediate” objectives, which involve addressing user experiences and scalability hurdles in forthcoming protocol updates, Stańczak stated.
Stańczak noted that the foundation will emphasize layer-1 scalability, endorse layer-2 scalability solutions, and improve user experiences such as compatibility in the Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam updates.
While the emphasis is on immediate results, the executive mentioned that the team is also exploring methods to integrate additional long-term initiatives.
“Contributions from our leading researchers facilitate some of them to launch within a year or two through endeavors such as next-generation execution and consensus layers,” Stańczak remarked.
