Vietnamese renewable energy firm CN Green Roof Asia (CNGRA) has commenced the construction of a 22.785-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar energy venture in Hermosa, Bataan.
This facility, established through the special purpose entity Solana Solar Beta, Inc., is projected to initiate commercial operations by the close of 2025.
When operational, the solar plant is anticipated to produce 32.8 gigawatt-hours of clean energy each year, enough to provide power to nearly 30,000 people annually. This initiative signifies a $15.8-million investment and is part of CNGRA’s larger endeavor to enhance its renewable energy presence in the Philippines.
“This initiative exemplifies what robust alliances can accomplish. Alongside our local partners, we’re establishing a more sustainable energy framework that serves communities today and for future generations,” stated Rob Santler, chief executive officer of CNGRA.
Founded in 2021, CNGRA is a collaboration between Climate Fund Managers—via its Climate Investor One platform—and Norfund, the Norwegian government’s investment fund for developing nations. The organization intends to allocate up to P10 billion over the coming two years towards solar and battery energy storage initiatives across the Philippines, striving for a total capacity of up to 300 MW.
Besides the Hermosa initiative, CNGRA is investigating avenues to develop ground-mounted solar arrays and commercial and industrial rooftop projects throughout Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The firm has also formed a collaboration with local developer Solana Renewable Energy Holdings to promote its efforts in the nation.
The Hermosa solar venture is expected to generate over 100 job opportunities during the construction phase, mitigate approximately 14,053 tonnes of carbon emissions every year, and aid the Philippines’ objective of attaining 35% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030. — Sheldeen Joy Talavera
