2024 proved to be an outstanding year for ethereum.org, and with our plates already full of projects and initiatives for 2025, it’s crucial to take a moment to acknowledge the accomplishments facilitated by the community this past year.
With that in mind, we have compiled a summary of our key highlights from 2024—we trust you will find it enjoyable to read!
Blobs galore: unveiling the Dencun FAQ
In 2023, we developed a detailed hub for Ethereum’s protocol roadmap on ethereum.org. A few months later, in March 2024, the Cancun-Deneb (also known as Dencun) network upgrade was launched. As inquiries began to pour in, it became necessary for us to create a FAQ-style page to clarify what this latest upgrade entailed.
Scaling Ethereum, one term at a time: ethereum.org Translatathon
The second installment of ethereum.org’s Translatathon, the yearly translation competition aimed at enhancing the volume of non-English Ethereum content, surpassed all expectations: over the span of two weeks, 327 participants translated 2.53M words, making Ethereum-related content available in 70 languages. With the backing of our international community, we also established 12 in-person translation hubs across four continents.
The announcement for the next edition of the Translatathon will be made in the following weeks—meanwhile, you can check the recap of the 2024 edition here.
Improved, quicker, and sturdier: transitioning our UI library to ShadCN
After extensive efforts to enhance website performance in 2023, we recognized that our earlier UI library was restricting us from providing optimal performance and user experience. Given that ethereum.org attracts visitors from all corners of the globe, utilizing a range of devices and sometimes sluggish internet connections, we needed our UI to operate smoothly for everyone.
This is why, in collaboration with the community, we opted to transition our UI library to ShadCN, which is based on Tailwind CSS—a renowned, performance-driven library widely adopted by developers.
While the migration is nearly finished, you can monitor the progress in our GitHub repository.
Coming together: Devcon SEA
At Devcon SEA, ethereum.org left a positive impression by showcasing at the Impact Forum during the event’s first two days – we received over 400 visitors and had the chance to share the mission of ethereum.org, while building connections within the community. Approximately 200 merchandise items (including t-shirts, coloring books, and postcards) were given out to contributors, providing a fun and memorable experience.
Acknowledging exceptional contributions: Contributor Acknowledgment Program
The Contributor Acknowledgment Program is a year-long initiative within the ethereum.org community aimed at recognizing and rewarding members for their valuable contributions to the ethereum.org portal. In 2024, over 800 ‘proof of contribution’ badges were awarded across four categories (GitHub, content, design, and translations) on platforms such as POAP, GitPOAP, and Galxe.
Additional L2s? Additional L2 content!
In 2024, we launched significant updates on the Layer 2 (L2) information accessible on ethereum.org, reflecting the critical role of scaling solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem. The website introduced a more extensive and user-friendly L2 section, featuring interactive guides, visuals, and comparisons of popular L2 solutions.
A new appearance: overhauling the ethereum.org homepage
Throughout the last decade, ethereum.org has experienced numerous changes, ultimately embracing the purple-blue pastel design you have come to recognize since 2020. A homepage redesign was overdue, with the objective of continuing to present what Ethereum represents, and emphasizing how anyone can participate.
Open source at the core: engaging at Hacktoberfest 2024
In October, we partnered with Hacktoberfest, a worldwide initiative to encourage contributions to open source projects. With over 40 PRs submitted, we are immensely grateful to the 20 contributors who participated with ethereum.org in this month-long effort, contributing across all areas: content, design, migrations, and a multitude of bug fixes!
Ethereum terminology, translated: introducing ETHGlossary
As part of the Translatathon, we developed ETHGlossary—a platform that gamifies the process of translating Ethereum terminology. Users can vote on the best translations for key concepts and discuss why certain translations are effective (or ineffective). So far, we’ve gathered nearly 7,000 translations across more than 40 languages, affirming that ETHGlossary serves a vital function in constructing a comprehensive glossary of Ethereum vocabulary across different languages.
Engaging with the community: Community Calls, Q&A sessions and Office Hours
In 2024, we organized 38 events on ethereum.org‘s Discord server. These included Office Hours, where we clarified intricate Ethereum subjects for novices, as well as monthly Community Calls, where we shared updates regarding the portal and its ecosystem. Additionally, we conducted biweekly Q&A sessions, allowing contributors to test new releases hands-on on ethereum.org—we certainly spent a substantial amount of time online last year!

A fresh online home: Next Billion and ETHproofs.org
In addition to managing ethereum.org, our principal team also facilitates web development for numerous projects within the Ethereum Foundation. Over the last year, we collaborated on designing and launching new websites for the Next Billion Fellowship and ETHproofs—these partnerships embody our dedication to backing meaningful initiatives throughout the community.
In 2025, we are transforming our approach to building ethereum.org. Starting in January, we will implement Shape Up methodology – which consists of 8-week terms (‘cycles’) aimed at delivering features and initiatives. Additional information on this will be shared shortly!
Although we will continue producing annual product roadmaps, moving forward, we will be posting ‘cycle roadmaps’ in our GitHub repository—you can see what we will be working on in this initial cycle here.
Our community is an integral component in developing ethereum.org — you can explore how to begin contributing (for instance, writing or reviewing content, designing new graphics, translating the website, developing new functionalities or fixing bugs, and many other opportunities) on our contributors pages.
We sincerely thank every individual who contributed to making ethereum.org a reality. Here’s to a fantastic 2025!
