Avida Land commemorated its 34th anniversary by reinstating Grand Neighbor Day to enhance community bonds and advocate for sustainable living. This nationwide festivity united Avida residents within their localities to cultivate new connections through activities reflecting the theme, “Connect & Thrive: Together for Stronger Communities.”
“For our 34th anniversary, we aim to make it meaningful by encouraging our residents to partake in this occasion as we revive Grand Neighbor Day,” remarked Nancy Delegencia, Customer Care and Product Delivery Group Head of Avida. “This is the moment when all our residents come together in various locations with the common aim of fostering more robust community connections focused on inspiring lives and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.”
Central to these activities was The Grand Reveal of each community’s entry for the Avida Upcycling Competition. Each community collaborated to craft a Christmas lantern using upcycled PET bottles alongside other recyclable resources. To identify the winning creations, Avida Land convened a distinguished panel of judges who assessed the submissions. Notable figures on the judging panel included Dr. Carlomar Aracngel Daoana, an acclaimed curator, art writer, and published poet; Joshua Limon Palisoc, a gifted young visual artist recognized for his metal sculptures and upcycling initiatives; Atty. Joseph Gonzales, a well-regarded art curator and the creator of one of the Philippines’ most progressive galleries; and Petes Gamboa from Ayala Land, Head of Innovation & Design in the Core Residential Business Group.
The contest attracted numerous Avida communities nationwide, including Avida Towers Vireo and Avida Towers One Union Place in Arca South, Avida Towers Turf in BGC, Avida Towers Vita in Vertis North, Avida Towers Riala in Cebu, Avida Towers Atria in Iloilo, Hillcrest Estates NUVALI and Southfield Settings NUVALI in Laguna, as well as Serin East Tagaytay and Avida Verra Settings Vermosa in Cavite.
Following extensive deliberation, three victors were ultimately named. Team Avida Verra Settings Vermosa (AVSV) was crowned Grand Winner, with Team Avida Towers Riala taking home second place and Team Serin East Tagaytay in third.
Gerryringo L. Lariza, head of the winning AVSV team, shared the inspiration behind their creation. “The AVSV Lantern 2024 landscape flower design seeks to foster a warm, welcoming ambiance that captures the Filipino-Verra Christmas spirit. By utilizing vibrant plastics, PET bottles, and construction waste to craft flowers, traditional decorations, and significant lighting features, this installation embodies the themes of unity and family,” he stated. “This design will render the AVSV Lantern 2024 a memorable and heartfelt festivities for the community, truly encapsulating the essence of ‘Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko.’”
The thread of sustainable innovation permeated other activities offered to residents during Grand Neighbor Day as well. Both children and adults participated in arts and crafts with the “Debris to Design: Recycling to Create Home Décor.” In this initiative, materials such as tissue tubes, cans, and bottles were repurposed into unique items that could brightly enhance any home.
Undoubtedly, no Filipino celebration would be complete without a feast. Recognizing that Filipinos love to gather and connect over meals, Avida residents shared their personal culinary favorites during the “A Taste of My Hometown” event.
“At Avida, we not only create inspiring living environments for our residents but also emphasize how the connections they build enhance their living experiences,” remarked Delegencia. “We are pleased to have hosted yet another successful Grand Neighbor Day that draws our residents closer through the enjoyment of sustainable lifestyle activities.”
