Devconnect, the week-long assembly of the Ethereum ecosystem and community, wrapped up its second edition in Istanbul. Over 3,500 participants from various backgrounds united from November 13-19 at the Devconnect Cowork within the Istanbul Congress Center, and many more attended the 70+ deep-dive sessions orchestrated by independent teams in the Ethereum community. Activities unfolded at multiple venues throughout the city and beyond, celebrating the extensive and rich nature of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Devconnect! We are thrilled that all who could participate had an intense week filled with discussions, presentations, workshops, and genuine connections. A huge shoutout is deserved for all independent organizers, volunteers, and every attendee who engaged, shared, and contributed.
A week of education, collaboration, and development
The core of Devconnect was its emphasis on advancement for the Ethereum ecosystem. Being a gathering created by and for the community, numerous teams within the ecosystem organized independent events centered on their specific Ethereum knowledge. Key subjects included Layer-2 scaling solutions, programmable cryptography, and real-world applications, illustrating the adaptability within the Ethereum ecosystem and community. A noteworthy technology utilized for Devconnect ticketing was Zupass – an open-source instrument developed by contributors from the Devconnect and Zuzalu communities. Zupass facilitates the generation of ZK proofs to, for instance, confirm event attendance.
Devconnect IST unified our global community in a single location, igniting real connections that are vital for our decentralized ecosystem. The backgrounds of Cowork attendees were diverse, including developers (33.7%), founders (19.4%), researchers (11.6%), marketers (5.8%), designers (2.4%), and more. This diversity of backgrounds and skills created a distinctive atmosphere for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
Local influence and worldwide connections
One distinct feature of this year’s Devconnect was the impressive participation of the local Turkish Ethereum community. A majority of all Devconnect Cowork participants were locals from Türkiye, constituting the largest segment at 17.5% of the overall attendees. Events such as ETHGünü and notDEVCON by ITU Blockchain, the largest blockchain group in Istanbul, highlighted the importance of local communities and fostered connections between local and global networks.
Anticipating the Future
As we contemplate the accomplishments of Devconnect IST 2023, it is evident that this event is part of a broader evolving trend within our decentralized ecosystem. Devconnect’s distinct format, akin to that of Zuzalu and Zuconnect (which occurred just prior to Devconnect in Istanbul), signifies a new paradigm in our decentralized ecosystem – congregating for a week or longer, collaborating on the challenges we confront, and achieving substantial advancements.
