The 2nd edition of the ethereum.org Translatathon is completed! This year, we witnessed 327 contributors translate a remarkable 2.53 million words into 70 languages. Let’s delve into the specifics:
What is the Translatathon?
The Translatathon is our annual translation competition aimed at expanding the volume of non-English Ethereum content.
Anyone who is bilingual can participate, with no technical expertise necessary. Throughout the Translatathon, participants can enhance their knowledge about Ethereum while contributing to ethereum.org and vying for rewards.

The aim was to secure more translations in less-represented languages, broaden our multilingual content, onboard new contributors, and reward those already engaged.
The statistics: 2023 vs 2024
Here’s how the activity stacks up against last year’s Translatathon:
- Active translators: 217 → 327 (50% increase)
- Words translated: 1.47M → 2.53M (70% increase)
- Languages translated: 56 → 70 (25% increase)
We distributed $30,000 in rewards among 189 eligible participants. The top 10 translators also received Devcon tickets and discounts. Quite impressive!

What this signifies for ethereum.org
The Translatathon will greatly influence the translated material available on ethereum.org! Here’s what we are enhancing on the site:
- 1.35 million newly translated words
- 3,173 pages added or refreshed across 55 languages
- 6 new languages incorporated (Akan Twi, Ewe, Hausa, Shona, Tagalog, and Yoruba)
The broader perspective
With these additions, ethereum.org will encompass 68 non-English languages. Include English in the equation, and we will have content that resonates with approximately 5.5 billion individuals. That accounts for nearly 67% of the planet, who can now begin exploring Ethereum in their native language!
Beyond ethereum.org: ecosystem influence
Thanks to our fantastic contributors, numerous languages on ethereum.org were already fully translated. To ensure everyone could engage in the excitement (and contend for rewards), we also included content from other Ethereum projects. Here’s the translation activity breakdown:
ETHGlossary
As part of the Translatathon, we launched ETHGlossary, our new tool that transforms Ethereum terminology into a multi-language journey!
ETHGlossary gamifies the translation of Ethereum terms across more than 60 languages. You can cast votes for the most effective translations of key concepts and engage in discussions on why certain translations succeed (or fail)! We were excited to have 84 contributors propose 6226 translations across 40 languages during the translation phase.
Our objective is to keep refining ETHGlossary, evolving it into a fully open-source application that everyone can utilize and contribute to. We’re striving to cultivate the finest resource for Ethereum terminology in every language, enhancing the entire ecosystem.
Gathering in real life
To connect translators, we supported community-organized Translation Hubs in 11 countries. Over 100 individuals gathered to translate, discuss various Ethereum topics, and have a great time!
