The operator emphasized that no financial information, passwords, or ticketing functionalities had been compromised and that train services are operating as usual.
The breach, which LNER stated it was addressing “with utmost urgency,” underscores the increasing threat of cyber-attacks on UK transport services and their supply networks. This incident is the most recent in a series of prominent hacks affecting UK businesses and transportation services. Transport for London experienced a cyber breach last year impacting financial data for 5,000 customers, while earlier this month operations at Jaguar Land Rover were disrupted by a ransomware invasion. Retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Harrods, and the Co-op have also fallen victim to attacks this year.
