Friends,
What an exhilarating week it has been! We kicked off our first round of ticket sales and completely sold out in merely 18 minutes! However, there’s no need to fret, as additional ticketing rounds will be available along with various discounts and scholarships that you can still apply for. The Devcon team values openness and effective communication, and we want to convey some of our rationale regarding Devcon4 ticket distributions and sales in hopes of addressing the inquiries and feedback we’ve received from the community.
Ticket Distribution and Revenue Allocation
To begin with: More than two-thirds of Devcon4 tickets are either reduced in price or complimentary, targeting builders and students, among other demographics. The remaining one-third of tickets are being offered through a series of “waves” at the same price per ticket as previous Devcon events – this covers the expenses of the conference and the operations associated with the Ethereum Foundation. Consequently, this allows us to utilize our financial assets to contribute back to the community by funding core development and offering ecosystem grants. Furthermore, funds from the sponsorships of community leaders empower us to sell most tickets at reduced rates and provide scholarships.
Waves
Waves serve as the method for anyone to secure a general admission ticket. We are spacing out the timing of the waves to implement the insights we gain into future waves (for instance, we discovered a glitch that postponed e-ticket receipts from being dispatched to those who provided payment via cryptocurrency during the initial wave!)
Supporting Builders
Our goal is to facilitate attendance for individuals creating decentralized applications and Ethereum protocols at Devcon4. While most of the programming & content will be highly technical, we encourage independent builders or those in small organizations of all types to apply for builder discounts: developers, designers, researchers, community coordinators, and even artists. Without all of you, what would Ethereum truly be?
Diversity and Inclusion
For the Ethereum community to create a positive social effect, the individuals building this ecosystem must embody the rich diversity of the human experience. We are providing scholarships to ensure that Devcon becomes more diverse, accessible, and equitable than ever before. Apply for a scholarship if you require additional financial assistance to attend Devcon4 and
- are from a developing nation
- identify with an underrepresented group (race, gender, sexuality, etc.) within the Ethereum ecosystem
- come from an academic and/or research institution
We are diligently working on reviewing and responding to all 1,000 applications for discounts & scholarships that we have received thus far. Keep them coming.
Coming Soon!
You will hear more from us shortly regarding upcoming dates for future waves, as well as applications for speakers & sessions.
We hope this provides clarity on how we are managing tickets for Devcon4. Finally, we are always receptive to your suggestions and feedback to enhance this process.
