When we approached numerous individuals with the question, “What excites you the most about Devcon4?” the majority responded: the attendees! This is the one occasion each year when we all gather in a single location. We desire to avoid spending all of our time at Devcon confined in a dimly lit room, silently gazing at a speaker on a platform – we seek to see, meet, and converse with one another.
With that in mind, we’re crafting the schedule and atmosphere of Devcon4 to create the opportunity and environment for all of us to forge new connections – between individuals and concepts. This is our opportunity to pose the crucial questions to one another and delve into the most significant challenges (and thrilling prospects!) currently confronting Ethereum.
Thus, we will be trialing a more interactive format at Devcon4 this year!
Here are three approaches you can take to get involved in Devcon4:
- Deliver a talk: This one is straightforward.
Present a 5-minute lightning talk or a 20-minute presentation on a subject of your choice.
- Conduct a workshop: Educate attendees on a skill. During a 2-hour period, participants should “get hands-on,” whether coding or learning narrative techniques.
- Facilitate a breakout session: Be inventive and develop your own program for Devcon4! Organize dapp design reviews, encourage discussions, conduct live security evaluations, [insert your brilliant idea here]
When you submit your application, we request that you link your session to one of the six essential themes:
- Scalability: In what way can we scale Ethereum securely, decentralized, and trustlessly to facilitate widespread adoption?
- Security: What measures can we take to protect user data and funds?
- Privacy: How can we empower users to maintain control over their own data?
- Developer Experience: What strategies can we implement to simplify, extend, and enhance the enjoyment of developing for Ethereum?
- UX & Design: How can we foster a more intuitive, user-friendly, and enjoyable experience for our users?
- Society & Systems: Why do we BUIDL? In what ways will this technology transform our societal systems and the individuals within them? (To clarify: this is also somewhat of an “umbrella” theme for governance, cryptoeconomics, social impact, memes, etc.)
If you wish to discuss your particular dapp or protocol, please do so within the context of one of these common subjects. How have you recognized or addressed a collective issue? How can your contributions aid the larger community?
With approximately 3000 participants and limited time, we anticipate that applications for participation will be exceedingly competitive this year. We advise securing your tickets in advance in case your proposal is not accepted, to ensure you don’t miss the opportunity to attend Devcon4! We will issue a refund to anyone who buys a ticket and subsequently qualifies for a complimentary pass.
Please assist us in crafting a Devcon4 event that embodies these values:
- Participatory: We are all collaboratively building the Ethereum ecosystem, and Devcon4 should embody that. Beyond educational presentations, Devcon4 should offer chances for participants to engage in the broader dialogue and share knowledge.
- Educational: As the sole event organized by the EF, Devcon4 provides an opportunity for our community to gain insights directly from the leaders of the Ethereum ecosystem. Participants should learn things that are not available elsewhere.
- Enjoyable: The primary reason individuals attend Devcon is to reconnect with one another! Let’s create a distinct “Ethereum” family reunion for our community.
