Our aim on the grants team is to be responsible stewards of Ethereum community assets. As part of the Ethereum Foundation’s ongoing initiative to distribute authority across our community, we provide grants that we believe will yield the maximum influence on the Ethereum ecosystem in the long run.
What is the extent of EF grants?
-
Open source!
-
Funding is exclusively for forthcoming work
-
Avoid favoritism. We strive not to give preference to one team over another
-
Avoid grants at the application layer; however, we believe that projects and teams operating at this layer should apply when they develop open source tools relevant to the broader ecosystem
-
Steer clear of granting an Ethereum Foundation “stamp of approval.” EF Grants are not meant to signify endorsement of any specific project over others.
How do we assess applications?
-
We consider the highest impact by asking ourselves:
- how crucial would this be to the ecosystem?
- how pressing is the issue?
- how many others are addressing this issue?
- what value do we gain by providing a grant versus doing nothing?
-
We have a favorable bias towards projects with plausible pathways to sustainability. This assists in ensuring a lasting impact on the investment of community resources.
-
We seek applicants with pertinent experience or demonstrable ability to execute, relative to the grant amount
-
Conformance with Ethereum principles
Note: as we provide non-dilutive capital, we anticipate paying a discount on your market rate
