    The EF’s Ecosystem Funding Initiative squad is delighted to unveil the commencement of the 2025 Academic Grants Round, an innovative effort focused on empowering and broadening the horizons of Ethereum-linked academic inquiry. With a dedicated fund of $2 million, we are enthusiastic about expanding on the achievements of earlier rounds by endorsing groundbreaking research across various fields essential to the advancement and enhancement of the Ethereum ecosystem.

    Scope of the Round

    The parameters of this round encompass, but are not restricted to, initiatives in Economics & Game Theory, Applied and Theoretical Cryptography, Consensus Algorithms, Protocol Development, Networking & P2P Technologies, Client Development, Security, Formal Verification, and Humanities. We invite daring concepts and fresh methodologies that can significantly impact the Ethereum community. You are encouraged to check our wishlist for inspiration, but feel free to transcend those bounds!

    Who Is Eligible to Apply?

    The invitation is extended to academic researchers, educators, and intellectuals from institutions, universities, research facilities, and think tanks with insights or proposals that align with Ethereum’s mission. We welcome submissions from individuals or teams keen to investigate the opportunities within the Ethereum protocol.

    Fundamental Application Details

    • Deadline for Proposals: Proposals must be presented by 23:59 AoE on March 16th, 2025. Ensure your applications are submitted here.
    • Project Types: Projects should yield formal academic research, with the research outputs being open-access and released under a free and permissive license.
    • Intended Audience: Applications are welcome from individual researchers with academic credentials, research institutions, universities, think tanks, educators, and other parties interested in Ethereum research.
    • Format of Submission: Proposals must be in PDF format, composed in English, and should include a comprehensive project description, budget, timeline, applicant profile, and a link to any relevant public work or repository. Here is a proposal template
    • Decisions on Funding: Applicants will be notified of funding determinations within six weeks following the deadline.
