We’re here for our final celebration before we transition into 2021 – continue reading for the most recent updates on a selection of grantees!
Gitcoin for CLR matching
Gitcoin’s CLR grants represented one of the pioneering real-world applications of quadratic funding, where the quantity of unique backers for a grant holds more influence than the total funds in deciding the match sum.
CLR grants have progressed significantly since the initial round in early 2018! With 16 organizations and nearly as many individuals committing matching funds as of Round 8, it has evolved into a genuinely community-driven support network for many open source contributors in the ecosystem. The platform itself has also advanced, with recent user interface enhancements such as:
- A “shopping cart” feature that enables users to contribute to several grants simultaneously and share their cart with others
- Integration of zksync for scalability, allowing multiple donations to be consolidated into a single transaction
- Collections to help users keep track of their preferred grants or explore others’ favorites
EIP 1559 R&D
EIP 1559, which suggests modifications to Ethereum’s fee structure, has been a focal point for community-wide dialogue and development since 2019. A recent grant awarded to multiple recipients is intended to support ongoing community-led research and development: Consensys obtained funding to assist in coordinating research and development efforts, while resources allocated to the 1559 multisig are managed by signers from diverse organizations to back community initiatives including client implementation, infrastructure, bug bounties, and outreach.
There had been a substantial amount of work accomplished on EIP 1559 prior to this funding, and that momentum has continued! Here’s a brief selection of recent developments:
