This month, we present the most recent updates from two organizations making significant strides in enhancing the Ethereum ecosystem!
Couger focused on education and building community in Japan
Though Couger specializes in AI, it may appear an unexpected advocate for Ethereum education! Nevertheless, Couger has not only investigated the convergence of Ethereum and AI as well as implemented a zero knowledge voting protocol – they have also become enthusiastic educators and partners in their home country of Japan. In 2020, Couger received support for their ETHTerakoya meetups alongside a series of workshops and collaborative groups. Recently, Couger was granted a second funding opportunity to build on and further their past initiatives, including:
- “ID x Voting x Blockchain” working group uniting corporate, technical, and legal experts to collaborate on open standards and proof of concepts: meeting summaries in Japanese and English
- Public workshop showcasing the outcomes of the IDxVoting working group gatherings: summaries in Japanese and English and complete video of the presentation (divided into part 1 and part 2)
- Working group on eth2 convened in November 2020: summaries in Japanese and English
- Upcoming community-building efforts aimed at engaging students, enterprises, and raising public awareness

MetaCartel regarding post-hackathon assistance
The MetaCartel DAO is a collective of creators striving to expedite the expansion of the Ethereum ecosystem, particularly at the application layer. In 2020, MetaCartel concentrated on aiding hackathon attendees to persist in developing applications and software even after the hackathon concludes. Funding from the ESP grant was provided as a contribution to the MetaCartel DAO to be utilized for post-hackathon support, especially for initiatives arising from the ETHOnline virtual hackathon.
In addition to offering guidance as teams polish their products and develop sustainable business strategies, MetaCartel DAO provided minor grants to ETHOnline initiatives such as:
- Llama, a hub for crypto community treasuries
- Mindful, a platform that automates portfolio rebalancing and dollar-cost averaging
- Overlay, a derivatives protocol leveraging on-chain oracles to facilitate trading on data streams
