It’s always exciting to learn about new funding as it’s announced, but what occurs following the declaration? In this series, we will explore a few initiatives that are either in progress or have already reached completion. Read further to discover some recent milestones and successes achieved by grantees!

Devfolio for Ethereum India Fellowship 2.0

Devfolio’s Ethereum India Fellowship 2.0 featured two paths, each aimed at distinct groups to provide a comprehensive 8 weeks of training and mentorship intended to integrate skilled developers into the Ethereum ecosystem.
Track 1 welcomed 20 skilled Web2 developers with minimal or no exposure to blockchain to:

    • Understand foundational elements for Ethereum development such as Solidity, Remix, and Hardhat
    • Investigate a range of applications, spanning defi to DAOs, NFTs, and decentralized storage
    • Engage in an Ethereum-centric project of their selection

Track 2 was designed for intermediate Web3 developers to concentrate more thoroughly on executing a project throughout the full 8 weeks. Projects varied from innovative L2 implementations to robust privacy infrastructure, benefitting from guidance by seasoned industry experts.

The EtherPunk online hackathon, which occurred during the first half of the fellowship program, provided an opportune moment for fellows to present their projects for the hackathon and engage with prominent developers for presentations and constructive feedback.

The fellows achieved considerable progress both during and after the program – developers who commenced with minimal to no understanding of Ethereum have subsequently won thousands in hackathon rewards and secured internships at top organizations in the ecosystem. You can explore the fellows’ final project submissions here.

    Web3 Labs for Web3j

Web3j is a JVM and Android integration library for Ethereum, designed to simplify processes for Java developers working with Ethereum. Java is among the most widely utilized programming languages in enterprise environments, and the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) is one of the most popular development platforms. Launched in 2016 by Web3 Labs founder Conor Svensson aiming to bolster JVM developer engagement, Web3j has been developed and sustained by Web3 Labs since 2017. Web3 Labs was awarded a grant to support their ongoing efforts with Web3j, recent initiatives include:

    • Enhancing the Web3j documentation
    • Revamping the Maven plugin
    • Progress on Solidity library dependency management
    • Incorporation of smart contract migration support

The Web3 Labs team will persist in being the custodians of Web3j, with forthcoming projects including enhancements to the developer experience, eth2 client open API integration, and implementing improvements based on a recent user survey along with ongoing upkeep.

Follow Web3 Labs on Twitter @web3labs or participate in Web3J on Github.
