Are you thrilled by the advancement of the fundamental protocols that drive the Ethereum blockchain? Do you have an interest in engaging at the most foundational and intricate levels of the Ethereum protocol?
I am delighted to share that we are currently welcoming applications for the second cohort of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP)!
What is CDAP
I am Piper Merriam, a core developer. This entails that the development and upkeep of the Ethereum protocol forms a part of my role. Recently, protocol development has been gaining momentum. The “merge” approaches with each passing day, the journey toward “Stateless Ethereum” continues to advance, and we have strategies in place to address longstanding “warts” in the EVM. There is an abundance of tasks to undertake, yet unfortunately, there is a scarcity of individuals possessing the knowledge and skills required to carry out the work. This is where you come in.
This initiative under the EF protocol-support is my approach to assist individuals in navigating their way into core protocol development. Here are some specific details:
- Applications accepted until September 13th
- The program will run from late September 2021 through February 2022
- Participants will gain direct access to the core developer community
- Participants will have the chance to work on tangible projects with real consequences for the Ethereum protocols
The aim of the program is to equip you with firsthand experience of how core protocol development functions, along with guidance as you familiarize yourself with the protocols that form the foundation of Ethereum.
The First Cohort
We launched the initial cohort, “cohort zero” of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP) two months ago. Since then, approximately 15 developers have been exploring, learning, researching, and contributing. Many of these developers entered with minimal understanding of the inner workings of Ethereum. Two months later, these same individuals are accomplishing tasks such as:
- Developing an alternative approach for documenting and specifying the Ethereum protocol.
- Investigating how we can alter or discard the SELFDESTRUCT opcode
- Contributing to the development of ZKSync
- Establishing new peer-to-peer networks for the portal network.
- Creating their personal implementation of the EVM
With the concept validated, we are now excited to initiate the second cohort.
Doing Something Meaningful
Core protocol development undeniably ranks as the most influential activity I’ve engaged in throughout my career. I have the privilege of applying my knowledge and expertise to nurture and enhance a multi-billion dollar protocol; a protocol that I believe will be pivotal in fostering a more just and equitable future for humanity. Unfortunately, I cannot make the same claim regarding the various “rat-race” jobs that preceded this. Are you eager to join us in shaping a future you can truly be passionate about?
