The ethereum.org Translation Initiative has been operational for over two years, and we are thrilled to share several milestones we have achieved since its launch, along with some of our future objectives.
Since the initiation of this program in 2019, more than 2,000 community participants have assisted, translating a combined total of 2.8 million words thus far!
Thanks to all this engagement, ethereum.org is currently accessible in 37 distinct languages.
Although English remains the primary language accessed on the website (88% of total page views), the traffic to translated sections is also increasing significantly, having more than tripled since last year:
Here are some of the recent advancements we have achieved:
- In December 2020, we announced the launch of content versions 2.0+. Thanks to our translators, 19 languages have already been converted to version 2.0 or higher.
- We have broadened our translator resources and revised all public mentions of the Translation Initiative. For more details on how to participate, visit the Translation Program page on the site.
- Our community of translators has also participated in translating the Ethereum Staking Launchpad, a project that started earlier this year and is now available in 17 languages.
- We recently established translation groups to facilitate connections among our translators and the ethereum.org team. Ten translation groups are currently active on our Discord server, with additional ones created upon request. Reach out to us on Discord if you wish to join!

New content editions
We have released new content editions, featuring pages on ethereum.org that have recently been introduced to the site or significantly enhanced.
In addition to uploading new items for our translators, we have also separated the existing content editions into more specific categories. This will empower translators to tackle high-priority content, such as the homepage, in more manageable segments. This approach enables contributors to achieve milestones more effortlessly and allows us to incorporate translated material onto the website more swiftly.

As we approach the end of Q3, we are already planning for the upcoming quarter and beyond.

Scope
We are broadening the scope of the Translation Initiative beyond ethereum.org content to encompass other significant material in the Ethereum ecosystem.
Initially, we are examining the possibility of translating relevant blog entries from the Ethereum Foundation blog.

Recognition for translators
All the achievements we have made thus far would not have been possible without our outstanding translators, which is why we are looking into improved methods to recognize their efforts.
The first of such initiatives is an extension of our POAP program, where translators can claim various POAPs based on the word count they have translated this year.

In the fourth quarter of this year, we are intending to introduce translator leaderboards and a recognition page on the Translation Program page, which will enable us to showcase all of our contributors on the website, as well as emphasize some of our exceptional translators.
We will also be investigating the possibility of providing credentials and other forms of validation for important contributors, so please inform us about what you value the most!
Translation Program resources
Looking ahead, we will persist in expanding our translator resources to equip them with comprehensive information regarding participation in the program and utilizing Crowdin.
This initiative will facilitate smoother onboarding for new translators and furnish our contributors with further context on translation norms, terminology, and project-specific guidelines, simplifying their tasks while also resulting in higher quality and more uniform translations.
Alongside resources for translators, we will develop documentation outlining the workflow and translation procedure, with the intention of aiding other translation projects within the Ethereum ecosystem. Our objective is to establish a playbook with detailed instructions on initiating and managing a translation program, encouraging more Ethereum projects to incorporate internationalization support.
