The Ethereum Foundation is distributing 1 million USD in grant funding to entities that inform governments and policymakers about Ethereum and blockchain technology. We motivate others within the Ethereum community to back their crucial initiatives.
A space to expand, and to contribute positively
We recognize that innovative technologies present new challenges for regulators and governments. Nevertheless, regulators must find a harmony between safeguarding their constituents from harmful individuals and scams while also encouraging the development of new sectors. The Ethereum community can play a constructive role in this journey by supplying details and resources to policymakers and governments.
The encouraging news is that there are an increasing number of remarkable organizations that are stepping up to take on this responsibility for our community, some of which are solely dedicated to Ethereum and blockchain, while others appreciate its potential as a means to achieve their broader objectives of privacy, transparency, financial inclusion, and more.
Aiding those who assist us all
For the educators
The Ethereum Foundation is granting a total of $500,000 USD to three organizations that have been instrumental in educating policymakers and regulators:
- Coin Center: The preeminent US non-profit addressing policy matters impacting blockchain networks
- Electronic Frontier Foundation: A non-profit leader in championing digital privacy, free expression, and innovation
- Fight for the Future: A grassroots advocacy organization that campaigns for a future where technology acts as a means of liberation rather than oppression.
Assist us in reaching further
However, there are many other organizations that merit the community’s backing. We believe it is vital for the larger Ethereum community to have an influence in determining how to allocate funds to foster education on these essential issues.
Therefore, in addition to the grants mentioned above, we are also offering a $500,000 USD grant to the Gitcoin matching pool for their forthcoming advocacy round.
Gitcoin’s fundraising rounds utilize quadratic funding, in which individual contributions reflect community preferences regarding a particular set of grants. During the donation phase, grant recipients seek support from the community. The quantity of contributions and total amount given to their initiative impacts the overall allocation from the matching pool. The Gitcoin round will grant the community an opportunity to decide which advocacy non-profits should receive extra funding for their endeavors.
We encourage everyone to join the Gitcoin round (they will reveal more particulars soon) and to aid in educating governments about the potential of what we’re constructing together, ensuring we can foster a regulatory environment that allows our community to do as much good as possible.
Stay tuned for further updates on support for educational initiatives, including announcements from our Fellows, news about community resources, and more.
