From the surge of the scaling and layer 2 ecosystems to the inaugural Devcon in three years and The Merge, it has been a thrilling year for Ethereum and ethereum.org. We have launched numerous significant features and content, with thousands of remarkable contributors aiding us throughout the journey.
Let’s explore our highlights of 2022:
Translation program 🌎
Disseminating educational Ethereum content in as many languages as possible is essential to our team’s vision for ethereum.org. Our amazing community of contributors has made tremendous progress since we became a multilingual website in 2019, and in 2022 we were excited to observe continuous growth in the number of individuals participating in our translation program as well as a surge in readers using non-English languages.
2022 in statistics
- 3k new translators joined
- 4.6 million words translated
- 28% of visits are in languages other than English (double the high of 2021)
Assist us in translating ethereum.org
There was much to appreciate in 2022, but we still have significant ground to cover in delivering Ethereum education to the non-English speaking world. If you are fluent in a language other than English, please check out the translation program and assist in making ethereum.org more reachable to all!
Ethereum.org is the product of thousands of remarkable contributors, and every contribution aids us in building a valuable resource for the community. Similar to the translation program, ethereum.org witnessed extraordinary participation in a plethora of other community-driven initiatives. In 2022 we achieved 37,000 Discord members, an astounding 7,000 Crowdin members, and reached the significant milestone of 1,000 total contributors on GitHub!
Specifically, through our rollout of Typescript and the UI library migration, we had over 50 code contributors 🤯!

For content, we also had numerous contributors assist us in drafting new pages for ethereum.org. These included pages on blockchain bridges, DeSci, decentralized identity, and many others!

We cannot stress enough how grateful we are for every contributor ❤️. If you wish to contribute and help us develop ethereum.org in 2023, check out our Q1 roadmap.
Open design system 📐
Since May of 2022, we have been focused on crafting the ethereum.org design system. It required extensive effort to reach the current design state, and we are eager to unveil it. In Q1 2023, we will commence coding to support this new design system.
One of the key motivations behind developing a design system is to provide designers a method to contribute to the open-source Ethereum community. In 2023, we will persist in collaborating with the community to enhance our design processes for everyone.

Numerous new pages 🥳
2022 has been the most significant year for fresh content on ethereum.org. We addressed a multitude of our content voids and delivered informative, well-received pages that reached over a million readers.
There are too many pages to enumerate everything here (now exceeding 300 pages on the website!), but some of the key mentions include:
- Layer 2: informs users about Ethereum’s scaling through rollups and guides them on onboarding to layer 2.
- Run a node: emphasizes the importance of running a node (both for individuals managing their own node and for Ethereum as a whole) and provides readers with step-by-step resources to initiate running their own nodes.
- Staking hub: clarifies the staking process and the main advantages of various staking methods.
- Introduction to Web3: outlines the principles of Web3, its philosophy, and its current limitations.
- Energy consumption: displays Ethereum’s present and past energy usage and the effects The Merge produced.
In 2023, we will persist in collaborating with our community and experts in the Ethereum landscape to bridge our gaps and provide valuable content for our audience. If you’re interested in assisting, connect with us on Discord.
You can discover our upcoming projects in our quarterly roadmap, or you may create an issue if there’s content you’d like to see included on ethereum.org.
Wallet search overhaul 👛
A significant milestone in 2022 was the redesign of our wallet-related content. A substantial amount of traffic to ethereum.org originates from users aiming to acquire their first wallet. Previously, our wallet search page required considerable effort to compare the various features offered by wallets, making it challenging for users to determine which wallet aligned best with their requirements.
After multiple design revisions, we decided to create a shopping-like interface—enabling users to filter wallets by particular features, compare functionalities amongst wallets, and select user personas along with suggested features.

Learning hub and quizzes 🧠
A steady influx of new users aims to understand Ethereum. In 2022, we dedicated considerable time to improving the experience for these users. Developing straightforward content is a fundamental principle of our work, but these two initiatives were particularly concentrated on this segment of our audience.
Learning hub
We established the Learning Hub to assist users in finding a launchpad for learning about Ethereum without being daunted by the volume of information available and the fragmentation of the various pages on our site. The Learning Hub provides a guided journey for users, commencing with the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies, guiding them through initiating on Ethereum with their first wallet, instructing them on the workings of the Ethereum protocol, and how they can engage in the ecosystem.

Quizzes for learning
Alongside offering a structured learning path with the Learning Hub, we aimed to make the process of learning about Ethereum more enjoyable for users, enhance retention, and gamify the experience. To achieve this, we developed learning quizzes. Each quiz comprises several questions, encompassing multiple possible answers along with explanations provided after response submission to aid users in understanding when they answer incorrectly.

Currently, we have learning quizzes on eight pages and aim to broaden this with additional functionality and pages in 2023. They’re incredibly enjoyable! Take a look:
The Merge 🌳
Undoubtedly, the most significant Ethereum event of 2022 was The Merge. In preparing for The Merge, we thoroughly reviewed the entire website for content that would need alteration following Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake.

Along with auditing and revising hundreds of existing pages, we generated numerous new pages to reflect the modifications made such as: proof-of-stake frequently asked questions, proof-of-stake versus proof-of-work, how blocks are created on proof-of-stake, and many others.
For comprehensive details, refer to the three major initiatives we undertook related to The Merge:
Additional projects 🏃♂️
Besides our core asset on ethereum.org, we devoted substantial time to assisting other initiatives crucial to the success of Ethereum. We won’t elaborate on each one, but they are worth exploring!
Future prospects 👀
With so much accomplished, the ethereum.org community has significant achievements to commemorate in 2022. We extend our gratitude to the thousands of contributors who participated!
Like Ethereum itself, we still have considerable distance to cover if we aspire to keep cultivating the most extensive and inclusive resource for Ethereum on the web.
For this, we require your assistance! We’ve just launched our Q1 product roadmap. Explore it, and inform us how you wish to participate 🙏
