During the inaugural Devconnect last year in Amsterdam in 2022, we united for a week filled with comprehensive workshops and dialogues. Numerous participants of the sessions and discussions conveyed that they felt Devconnect greatly influenced the ecosystem by fostering progress in meaningful ways.
Many shared their hopes for another Devconnect event, and after witnessing its impact, we wholeheartedly concurred. It is with great excitement that we announce Devconnect is set to return, scheduled for November 13-19 this year in Istanbul! 🇹🇷
What is Devconnect?
Devconnect is a week-long assembly that showcases independent Ethereum events, each concentrating on a distinct theme. The objective is to delve into intensive sessions surrounding specific subjects and to connect the Ethereum community in smaller groups to converse, learn about, and achieve substantial advancements in particular areas. Events at Devconnect will be autonomous and organized by specialists in those fields — which might include you! Our team will facilitate coordination to provide hosts with logistical assistance and reassurance that there’s minimal overlap among similar topics to prevent diverting participants’ attention. Throughout the week, we will also maintain a coworking area for collaboration for all interested parties.
Most activities will target an audience of professionals or enthusiasts in the specific field of the event to foster thorough understanding and dialogues. Unlike a standard conference, we aspire for this week-long gathering to promote the in-depth discussions necessary for the ongoing enhancement of Ethereum.
Devconnect is an ideal platform to apply subtraction, and we eagerly anticipate the events, influence, and advancements the community can generate during this week. If you’re interested in hosting an event, stay tuned for further resources and information.
Moreover, we would like to clarify that Devconnect ≠ Devcon, which will continue to be our principal event, and we are thrilled to bring Devcon 7 to Southeast Asia in 2024.
Why Istanbul 🇹🇷
In recent months, we noticed one community of developers and students stand out: the Turkish Ethereum community has made significant efforts to advocate for Istanbul. Nonetheless, we carefully assessed various options for the site of Devconnect 2023, visited multiple potential sites, examined venues, and verified availability. We evaluated numerous options and considered each location before finalizing our choice.
We are thrilled to host Devconnect in Istanbul, the dynamic metropolis of Türkiye, where two continents converge, and we anticipate providing an extraordinary event for the global Ethereum developer community.
While we want this to be a heartening announcement, we also acknowledge and keep in mind the devastating earthquakes that profoundly affected southeast Turkey and northwest Syria, impacting the lives of millions. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones or their homes.
The region will require assistance for an extended period, and if you wish to contribute to the relief efforts, here is a collection that some community members have compiled. We hope that the decision to bring Devconnect to Istanbul serves as a symbol of our support, encouraging others to assist this region in various ways.
We are aware that concerns regarding earthquake safety may be on your mind. Although Istanbul was not physically impacted by the recent earthquake, we will continue to monitor the situation diligently. We hope to see you soon, and together, let us create something significant and exceptional in Istanbul during Devconnect this November.
In selecting Istanbul as the host city for Devconnect 2023, we aim to take advantage of its unique role as a connector between East and West. Accessibility is a major priority, and acquiring visas for participants from most countries will be relatively straightforward. Istanbul, as one of the leading tourist destinations globally, is well-prepared with a major international airport to welcome guests from around the world. The efficient local metro system and an abundance of appropriate venues for community events render it the ideal setting for Devconnect 2023.
The engaged local community and various student blockchain clubs in the area bolster our confidence in the potential of this lively city. We are assured that Istanbul’s distinctive mix of history, culture, and modernity will provide an inspiring backdrop for the global Ethereum developer community to unite, collaborate with these enthusiastic groups, and propel innovation for Ethereum.
