The Ethereum Foundation is excited to disclose a scalability, usability, and security grant amounting to five million dollars (USD) awarded to Parity Technologies.

For many years, Parity Technologies has been an essential contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem due to their pioneering role in core development initiatives, their Parity Ethereum client, and various other projects. Their efforts have progressed at an impressive speed. At Devcon4 in Prague, members of the Parity team showcased their intentions to create a Serenity implementation, illustrating a promising direction for the future.

In every regard, Parity stands as a significant technical contributor to the Ethereum project, having notably achieved this through a self-sustained and open-source approach since their inception.

The Ethereum Foundation is dedicated to supporting teams and individuals constructing the collective infrastructure related to scalability, usability, and security. Accordingly, we could not identify a more suitable recipient for a grant, given Parity’s relentless efforts to elevate the technical standards and their focused attention on next-generation innovations, including proof-of-stake, sharding, and WebAssembly.

We have been pleased to witness our ecosystem come together to champion technical merit and value alignment, and we are committed to utilizing our resources to advance this mission as well. We do so in a responsible manner through milestone-based grants to projects, whether large or small, proportional to the potential impact of their contributions.

This grant will finance Parity’s initiatives regarding Casper, sharding, light clients, development tools, quality assurance, audits, and infrastructure enhancements. The funding will be allocated in multiple tranches, with the initial one backing development that Parity has already accomplished. Subsequent funds are dependent on achieving specific milestones, which consist of:

    • Finalizing eWasm compatibility work

    • Launching a light wallet for mainnet.

    • Achieving successful completion of Phase 0 and Phase 1 of sharding.

We extend our gratitude to Parity Technologies for their diligent efforts and dedication to Ethereum, and we hope that this grant symbolizes their past contributions while serving as a marker for an exhilarating future. Please join us in congratulating Parity Technologies on being awarded this significant grant from the Ethereum Foundation.
