We trust that you are all looking forward to the upcoming year-end festivities. Today, we have some thrilling new modifications to share regarding the Ethereum.org Translation Program and several achievements to acknowledge.
First and foremost, we can’t express enough gratitude for all your assistance this year. Thanks to your efforts, we’ve managed to enhance 16 languages in 2020!
Moreover, since our inception 13 months ago, unique pageviews of translated materials have surged 10 times more than in the previous year. 🎉
However, we don’t intend to stop here…
Assist us with v2.0+
Today, we’re unveiling our next significant content initiative that is primed for translations. It comprises a substantial amount of content, thereby located in Crowdin across v2.0, v2.1, and v2.2. These versions encompass the following pages:
- Eth2 – Key information covering everything Eth2, from the Beacon Chain and staking to the reasons behind the Eth2 upgrades and their impact on the network.
- Ethereum Developer Resources – a broad array of educational materials catered for both novices and seasoned developers.

Commence translating v2.0 in Crowdin now!
Let’s go global
At present, the ethereum.org website is supporting 33 languages, yet 25 languages are still a work in progress on Crowdin. We are observing greater demand from smaller language communities, hence we’ve incorporated more regional languages into Crowdin.
Our objective is to enhance the accessibility of ethereum.org for users globally, irrespective of language and region. We are making progress, and we believe that with your collaboration (and by functioning as a community), we will reach our goal.
A revamped UX for ethereum.org translations
Despite the increase in traffic for translated pages, we’ve observed that the growth in relation to overall traffic has diminished this year. As illustrated below, the pageviews for translated pages approached nearly 20% of total unique pageviews in February but have since dropped to 10% in recent times.
We believe that this decline results from our extensive expansion of English content significantly over the past few months, making translated content appear outdated. Consequently, a greater number of users are returning to the English website.
Keeping this information in mind, along with the aim to make our latest content available to all language sites, we are implementing more changes…
Modifications to the language sites
We are concerned that users accessing the site in other languages are missing out on the most recent information, which is solely present in English. Therefore, we are instituting the following alterations:
- If a page isn’t available in your preferred language, we will showcase the English content alongside the banner below (which will be translated in your selected language). This ensures you will always access the most current content, even if we haven’t yet translated it.
- If there have been updates in English to a page you are viewing in your chosen language, we will provide you with the option to view the new English content. This way, you’ll be informed of new information that has not yet been translated.
Our content changes often go beyond mere text alterations. We regularly update the site to include more up-to-date products, articles, and other resources that we don’t want you to overlook.
We aspire that this strategy will provide a more enriching experience of ethereum.org, and that it may inspire greater translation contributions.
Updates to the translation initiative
- Concealing outdated versions in CrowdIn
To concentrate on the latest website translation, we’ve concealed outdated versions (v.1.0 and v.1.1) in CrowdIn. The previously translated material in older versions is preserved in our project’s Translation Memory. This will facilitate swifter translation of the new versions by pre-translating similar or identical strings.
- Updating new versions: v.2.x
As previously mentioned, to translate all new content, we’ve divided it into several minor versions: v.2.0, v.2.1, and v.2.2. We have assigned these numbers in accordance with priority. We encourage you to start with the lowest version first and gradually work your way to higher versions. If you wish to translate higher versions, that’s perfectly acceptable too, but we will upload these later following the lower versions.
Appeal for additional translators
For many, 2020 was a demanding year. We are profoundly grateful for the community’s relentless enthusiasm and continual contributions during this trying period. We look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts with you and to welcoming more volunteers in the coming year. We are always in search of additional translators to help us engage more individuals.
