- The Merge is approaching rapidly! This article provides details on how and when the enhancement will occur, as well as the client versions that are compatible with it.
- Kiln, an Ethereum merge testing network initiated in early 2022, is set to be deactivated in the week of September 12, 2022.
- Ropsten and Rinkeby are likewise outdated and are slated for discontinuation in Q4 2022 and Q3 2023, respectively.
- Users and developers are encouraged to transition to Goerli & Sepolia, which will continue to be supported and updated to mirror changes in the Ethereum mainnet for the foreseeable future.
As previously stated, the Kiln, Ropsten and Rinkeby test networks are now considered outdated and will be shut down in the upcoming months.
Kiln, which was established for the purpose of testing Ethereum post-merge before existing test networks merged, will be deactivated during the week of September 12, 2022. Although anyone can operate a node on the network, the bootnodes and validators overseen by client and testing teams, in addition to infrastructure providers, will be disabled at that time. This adheres to the timeline outlined in the deprecation announcement referenced earlier.
Ropsten and Rinkeby are also regarded as outdated, with a planned shut down in Q4 2022 and Q2 2023 respectively. While these networks will stay functional until that time, infrastructure providers might gradually limit or revoke access to these networks sooner.
Users and developers should transition to Goerli and/or Sepolia, both of which are anticipated to be sustained and upgraded in alignment with Ethereum mainnet modifications for the foreseeable future.
Look out for additional announcements on this blog before the shutdowns of Ropsten and Rinkeby.
Goodbye Kiln, you truly lived up to your name 🔥🧱
