Strategy originator Michael Saylor has suggested that the United States administration intends to obtain up to 25% of Bitcoin\u2019s overall supply within the next ten years for its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.<\/p>\n

\u201cAcquire 5-25% of the Bitcoin network in trust for the nation through systematic, programmatic daily acquisitions between 2025 and 2035, by which time 99% of all BTC will have been issued,\u201d Saylor stated<\/a> in a paper titled \u201cA Digital Assets Strategy to Dominate the 21st Century Global Economy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saylor emphasizes to the US government, \u201cDo not sell your Bitcoin\u201d<\/h2>\n

Saylor delivered the document to US President Donald Trump, government officials, and international crypto leaders at the White House Crypto Summit on March 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He articulated that the government should adhere to a \u201cDo not sell your Bitcoin\u201d strategy, forecasting that by 2045, the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve could yield over $10 trillion annually and function as a \u201cperpetual source of prosperity\u201d for Americans.<\/p>\n

By 2045, Saylor indicated that the Reserve could produce between $16 trillion and $81 trillion for the US Treasury, potentially alleviating the national debt.<\/p>\n

Earlier that day, Trump ratified an executive order establishing<\/a> a \u201cStrategic Bitcoin Reserve\u201d and a \u201cDigital Asset Stockpile,\u201d initially funded with cryptocurrencies seized in criminal investigations.<\/p>\n

Although it did not provide an immediate plan for acquiring more Bitcoin, the order specified that the Treasury and Commerce secretaries would devise \u201cbudget-neutral strategies\u201d for additional Bitcoin acquisitions, ensuring no extra cost for taxpayers.<\/p>\n

25% supply acquisition significantly surpasses previous proposals<\/h2>\n

If the US government managed to acquire 25% of Bitcoin\u2019s total supply, it would possess 5.25 million BTC \u2014 considerably more than the 1 million BTC (5% of the supply) that Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis<\/a> suggested in the Bitcoin Act introduced in July 2024.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Saylor has continued to amass Bitcoin, having secured an extra $2 billion worth<\/a> on Feb. 24. This increases Strategy\u2019s total reserves to nearly 500,000 BTC.<\/p>\n

This acquisition followed Strategy raising an additional $2 billion in a senior convertible note offering to acquire more Bitcoin.<\/p>\n
