As part of the Ethereum Foundation&#8217;s ongoing initiative to distribute authority across our community, we provide grants that we believe will yield the maximum influence on the Ethereum ecosystem in the long run.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"chakra-heading css-1w54o5f\" id=\"what-is-the-scope-of-ef-grants\">What is the extent of EF grants?<!-- --><\/h2>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\" class=\"css-1onhfjo\">\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Open source!<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Funding is exclusively for forthcoming work<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Avoid favoritism. We strive not to give preference to one team over another<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Avoid grants at the application layer; however, we believe that projects and teams operating at this layer should apply when they develop open source tools relevant to the broader ecosystem<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Steer clear of granting an Ethereum Foundation &#8220;stamp of approval.&#8221; EF Grants are not meant to signify endorsement of any specific project over others.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"chakra-heading css-1w54o5f\" id=\"how-do-we-evaluate-applications\">How do we assess applications?<!-- --><\/h2>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\" class=\"css-1onhfjo\">\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">We consider the highest impact by asking ourselves:<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<ul role=\"list\" class=\"css-1onhfjo\">\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">how crucial would this be to the ecosystem?<!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">how pressing is the issue?<!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">how many others are addressing this issue?<!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">what value do we gain by providing a grant versus doing nothing?<!-- --><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"css-cvpopp\">\n<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">We have a favorable bias towards projects with plausible pathways to sustainability.
