When the Grants Program commenced in early 2018, the primary concentration was on endorsing scalability endeavors. This emphasis later broadened to encompass security, user-friendliness, privacy, and education.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">In 2019, we are reverting to our fundamental focus to bolster critical Eth2.0 and layer 2 scaling endeavors. Nevertheless, we remain receptive to any grant proposal that tackles <!-- --><a class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.ethereum.org\/2018\/10\/24\/how-the-ethereum-foundation-grants-program-makes-decisions\">urgent, significant, and distinctive enhancements<!-- --><\/a> that advance the Ethereum vision.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Keeping these priorities in consideration, we are excited to unveil the initial grantees of 2019:<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/thematter.io\/\">The Matter<!-- --><\/a> \u2013 Implementing \u2018Plasma Ignis\u2019 code, a SNARK-driven \u201croll up\u201d capable of supporting up to 500 transactions per second.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/leapdao.org\/\">LeapDAO<!-- --><\/a> \u2013 \u2018Plasma Leap\u2019, a more practical Plasma framework with functionalities akin to smart contracts.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/libp2p\/py-libp2p\">Py-libp2p<!-- --><\/a> &#8211; A Python version of libp2p intended for use in Eth2.0 research, as well as in various other projects by UPenn seniors completing their capstone project (Zixuan Zhang, Robert Zajac, Alexander Haynes, and Aspyn Palatnick).<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ethereum\/comments\/alnmxn\/ethereum_on_arm_geth_and_parity_clients_update\/\">Ethereum on ARM<!-- --><\/a> &#8211; Promoting the decentralization of Ethereum by offering Ethereum client images on resource-limited devices, including an initial exploration into utilizing ARM nodes for Eth2.0 staking.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/goerli\">Goerli testnet<!-- --><\/a> &#8211; A cross-client testnet led by Chainsafe, widely endorsed by the Ethereum community. Initiated at G\u00f6rliCon at the end of January.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/kayagoban\/shadowlands\">Shadowlands<!-- --><\/a> &#8211; A Python-based, TextUI rapid prototyping platform for Eth applications that challenges the notion that everything must be a web application.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"chakra-link css-ug8vf0\" href=\"https:\/\/certik.org\/deepsea_blockchain.html\">DeepSEA<!-- --><\/a> &#8211; Research conducted at Yale and Columbia to advance their work on DeepSEA, a formally verified language that compiles to the EVM.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p><!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"chakra-text css-gi02ar\">Finally, although our general aim is to enhance the transparency of the Grants Program, we have opted not to disclose grant award amounts or a wishlist. These decisions have been made to prevent applicants from being influenced by previous wishlists and funding amounts.
