Ethereum.org serves as an informative site and gateway to Ethereum – for a vast number of individuals, it represents their initial encounter with Ethereum, the platform where they establish their first wallet or discover a dapp to utilize, and their primary resource to begin their education or enhance their understanding.<\/p>\n

To effectively fulfill this role, we have been managing the ethereum.org Translation initiative<\/a> since July 2019, aiming to render the site’s content accessible to everyone, including over 6 billion individuals who do not speak English.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By offering educational resources about Ethereum and crucial onboarding pages in as many languages as feasible, we strive to make it simple for anyone to learn about Ethereum and become a user or developer, irrespective of the languages they communicate in.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The outcome of this initiative has been a consistent rise in non-English pageviews as we increase the amount of translated content on the site, with visits to ethereum.org in languages other than English currently constituting over one-quarter of the total site traffic.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The website is open-source, and anyone is welcome to assist with coding, content, features, design, translations, or any other aspect of the site. Discover various ways to contribute on our contribution pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n To promote awareness regarding the significance of localizing content within the ecosystem, recruit new contributors to the program, encourage translations in our less active languages, and give back to our contributor community, we conducted the first ethereum.org Translatathon in August this year. Here\u2019s a summary of the event.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n What is a Translatathon?<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A Translatathon is essentially a translation contest, akin to a hackathon.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Engaging in a Translatathon does not require any coding skills or a technical background. Anyone who is bilingual and possesses some fundamental understanding of Ethereum can take part.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It also presents an opportunity for participants to learn about Ethereum by translating website content while aiding us in enhancing the accessibility of this content and vying for rewards simultaneously!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Here\u2019s a concise outline of how the ethereum.org Translatathon was structured:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/li>\n <\/li>\n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/p>\n For those interested in further details, complete information is available on the Translatathon page<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n How did it go?<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Translatathon garnered a total of 621 applications, and throughout the translation phase, 217 participants translated into 56 diverse languages.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The cumulative amount of translated content during the competition reached 1.47 million words, marking August as the most productive month for the Translation program to date (previous record: 497k words).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The volume of content translated during the 1-week translation phase equates to approximately ~50% of all content translated in the program throughout 2022.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Reflecting on the objectives we aimed to achieve with the Translatathon:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Raise awareness about the necessity of localizing content<\/em> – this is challenging to quantify and an ongoing endeavor, but we have received feedback from individuals expressing interest in engaging in similar initiatives, as well as some projects seeking to initiate or enhance their localization efforts<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Recruit new contributors to the program<\/em> – during the month, a total of 486 new members joined the ethereum.org project on Crowdin<\/a>, with many participants and prize winners being newcomers<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Encourage translations in less active languages<\/em> – participants translated into 56 distinct languages, including 7 new languages in which the website is not yet available. A total of 27 languages had over 10k translated words, enabling us to incorporate a substantial amount of newly translated content to the site in the upcoming weeks<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Give back to our contributors<\/em> – over 70% of all Translatathon participants (155 out of 217) were eligible for various prizes, with a total prize pool of $30,000 + additional rewards<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Languages<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The overall distribution of active languages was quite varied, featuring a total of 56 languages and 31 languages with 2 or more participants.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In terms of activity and participant numbers, a few languages emerged prominently:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n *Through this initiative, 100% of the website content has been converted into Turkish, perfectly timed for Devconnect Istanbul<\/a> \ud83d\udc40<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Other significantly active languages encompassed Polish (63k translated words), German (59k translated words), Russian (58k translated words), Chinese Traditional (15 translators), and Persian (13 translators).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The champions across the Individuals and Teams divisions were:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Individuals<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Teams<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Besides the leading participants, we also granted honorable mention awards to 30 individuals and 10 teams, awards for the top translator in every language, and participation awards for all contributors who didn\u2019t secure any other prizes and translated over 100 words.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Kudos to everyone, and thank you for being a part of this!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Though the Translatathon has concluded, the ethereum.org translation community is continuously engaged in translating the website content and enhancing accessibility for non-English users, and anyone is welcome to join.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n You can discover more about the Translation program and get involved here<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n If you missed the Translatathon, we will be organizing similar community engagement events in the upcoming period, so keep an eye out!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The best method to remain informed regarding ethereum.org<\/a> or become a contributor is to join our community on Discord<\/a>.
