The administration of US President Donald Trump has finalized an agreement with OpenAI to deliver the enterprise-grade version of the ChatGPT platform to all federal entities in a bid to \u201cupdate\u201d operations.<\/p>\n

As per the agreement, every US government entity will have access to the AI platform for a nominal fee of $1 per agency to aid in incorporating AI into operational workflows, according to a Wednesday declaration<\/a> from the US General Services Administration (GSA).<\/p>\n

The GSA, functioning as the US government’s procurement office, stated that the public-private partnership \u201cdirectly enhances\u201d the White House\u2019s AI Action Plan, a three-pillar strategy aimed at establishing US leadership in AI<\/a> development recently revealed by the administration.<\/p>\n

Despite the modernization initiatives, detractors argue that the continuing AI competition<\/a> among nations may pose adverse effects on privacy, data safeguarding policies<\/a>, censorship, narrative control, cybersecurity, individual liberties, and governance.<\/p>\n

The risks of centralized AI in governance <\/h2>\n

This year, the US Space Force, part of the military, halted the utilization of generative AI tools<\/a> within its organization, including ChatGPT, due to cybersecurity apprehensions regarding sensitive data essential for national security.<\/p>\n

Large language models (LLMs) and AI service providers would be required to revamp their data protection practices before the military can broadly implement these tools, noted Lisa Costa, Space Force\u2019s deputy chief of space operations for technology and innovation at the time.<\/p>\n

Public anxiety regarding the automation of governmental tasks using AI has also surged as the AI sector evolves. <\/p>\n
