Legkodymov was charged in January 2023, confessed in December, and was subsequently <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/bitzlato-founder-no-more-jail-700m-dark-web-exchange\" title=\"null\">sentenced to time already served<\/a> in July 2024 after nearly 18 months in custody.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnatoly [&#8230;] became a target in a political campaign against the cryptocurrency sector and skilled Russian developers,\u201d stated Ivan Melnikov, vice president of the Russian division of the International Committee for Human Rights, according to TASS. \u201cHis request for a pardon is fueled by the hope that the US will revert to a more equitable and reasonable attitude towards digital finance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"17489281\"\/><\/p>\n<p>As indicated in his indictment, Legkodymov <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nyed.506807\/gov.uscourts.nyed.506807.20.0.pdf\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"null\">was<\/a> involved in an initiative that enabled the transfer of illegal funds during his tenure at Bitzlato. US officials claimed that hundreds of millions of dollars were funneled from Bitzlato to the dark web Hydra Marketplace, with the exchange reportedly receiving around $15 million connected to ransomware operations.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Related: <\/strong><\/em><a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/changpeng-zhao-cz-binance-asked-trump-pardon\" title=\"null\"><em><strong>Binance founder CZ Zhao sought a pardon from Trump for a money laundering conviction<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>French authorities were said to be pursuing Legkodymov&#8217;s extradition to face similar allegations post his time in the US. Among those were Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht, who had been <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/trump-pardon-ross-ulbricht-silk-road\" title=\"null\">facing two life terms<\/a> in federal prison, alongside four former executives of the cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX: Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, Gregory Dwyer, and Samuel Reed. <\/p>\n<p>Former Binance CEO Changpeng \u201cCZ\u201d Zhao noted in May that he had submitted a request for a pardon from Trump. Zhao admitted guilt to one felony charge in November 2023 as part of a settlement with US authorities and served four months behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>There have been indications that former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried was also trying to <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sbf-cozies-up-gop-interview-clemency-push\" title=\"null\">obtain a federal pardon<\/a> from Trump through appearances on conservative media and distancing himself from the Democratic Party.
