Now, under her leadership, she stated the NYDFS is \u201cstrict yet equitable,\u201d highlighting that the digital currency oversight unit has notably increased in size.<\/p>\n<p>Harris <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/adrienneaharris\/details\/experience\/\" rel=\"null\" target=\"null\" text=\"null\" title=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/adrienneaharris\/details\/experience\/\">assumed control<\/a> as the superintendent of the NYDFS in September 2021 following her experience in the education, nonprofit, and private sectors. In New York State, cryptocurrency enterprises must either secure a BitLicense or a limited-purpose trust charter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve introduced nine pieces of regulatory guidance, making it still quite challenging to acquire a BitLicense or a limited-purpose trust charter,\u201d Harris stated. \u201cHowever, I believe [&#8230;] the proof is evident when you observe that FTX, Voyager, Celsius did not meet our criteria and thus were unable to operate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All three of these crypto firms declared bankruptcy in 2022. This led to a widespread fallout in the sector and prolonged legal battles.
