Nocella\u2019s selection occurred as jury selection commenced in the criminal trial of Braden John Karony, the former CEO of crypto firm SafeMoon.<\/p>\n<p>The influence of Nocella, appointed by US President Donald Trump this month, on the prosecutors\u2019 case against Karony, who is facing charges of securities fraud conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, and money laundering conspiracy, remains uncertain. Jay Clayton, a Wall Street veteran and the former chair of the SEC, <a data-ct-non-breakable=\"null\" href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ex-sec-chair-jay-clayton-interim-manhattan-us-attorney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" text=\"null\" title=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ex-sec-chair-jay-clayton-interim-manhattan-us-attorney\">became the interim US Attorney<\/a> for that district in April.<\/p>\n<h2>Criminal trial to commence on May 6<\/h2>\n<p>Karony of SafeMoon, alongside Kyle Nagy and Thomas Smith, was indicted in November 2023 for \u201cdiverted and misappropriated millions of dollars\u2019 worth\u201d of the platform\u2019s SFM token within the years 2021 and 2022. Karony has pled not guilty to all allegations and has been free on a $3 million bond since February 2024.<\/p>\n<p><template data-ct-widget=\"buzzsprout\" data-buzzsprout-podcast-id=\"2040516\" data-buzzsprout-episode-id=\"17042195\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In a May 5 filing, Karony consented to proceed with jury selection for his trial under US Magistrate Judge James Cho.
