July Work Progress Report

Horizen (ZEN) Mining Concludes – Pool Shutdown Executed

On July 22, 2025, the mining of Horizen (ZEN) officially concluded on 2Miners. This followed the project’s announcement regarding a significant transition to the Base network (an Ethereum Layer 2 solution). As a component of this strategic transition, the Horizen blockchain halted operations at block 1,807,300, on July 23 at 6:00 UTC.

Our ZEN mining pool was decommissioned on July 22 at 12:00 UTC to facilitate all final payouts being processed prior to the hard fork.

Final payouts have been successfully dispatched to all miners.

We are disheartened by this sudden adjustment — the choice to migrate took us and the community by surprise. You can find additional information about Horizen’s upgrade on their official announcement page.

If you are searching for an alternative Equihash coin to mine, we highly recommend Zcash (ZEC). BTC payouts are accessible!

Flux v8.0.0 – Significant Node Upgrade

The Flux development team has introduced Flux Daemon v8.0.0, a substantial upgrade that incorporates vital structural modifications ahead of the upcoming v9 fork scheduled for Q4 2025.

Noteworthy changes include:

  • Block reward halving has been eliminated to stabilize node operations before the v9 upgrade.
  • Support for 32-bit systems has been halted. Builds for i386 will no longer be offered.
  • Enhanced chain analysis with getchaintips RPC now accommodating block height filters for quicker queries.
  • GitHub Actions CI/CD integration supersedes legacy CI systems for improved automation, testing, and artifact management.
  • Cross-compilation enhancements for ARM64 and Windows binaries, including toolchain upgrades and fixes for binary stripping.
  • New Arcane Mode introduced with fArcane flag for sophisticated testing and benchmarking scenarios using UNMANAGED_FLUXBENCHD.

This release establishes the foundation for significant architectural modifications anticipated in Flux v9. All node operators are highly encouraged to update as promptly as possible.
