Zcash (ZEC) v6.2.0 Revision

The Zcash crew has officially commenced the deprecation process of zcashd in 2025. All complete nodes are being shifted to zebrad, and a new wallet known as Zallet is in the works as a substitute for the zcashd wallet interface.

While numerous JSON-RPC methods will be supported in zebrad or Zallet as drop-in substitutes, others may necessitate alterations, and some will be entirely unavailable. If you utilize zcashd for mining or various integrations, please check the JSON-RPC compatibility spreadsheet and submit your insights to facilitate improved migration support.

Platform Note: Support for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has been withdrawn. It will reach its end of support in May 2025 and no longer satisfies Tier 2 policy requirements due to GitHub runner limitations.

KASPA (KAS) v1.0.0 — Crescendo Hardfork

The long-anticipated Crescendo Hardfork is finally here! Kaspa has released rusty-kaspa v1.0.0, presenting significant performance enhancements and a boost in block production speed from 1 block per second (BPS) to 10 BPS. The upgrade went live on May 5, 2025, at approximately 15:00 UTC at DAA Score 110,165,000.

Key Features:

  • 10 BPS Activation: 10x increase in block rate boosts transaction throughput and responsiveness.
  • New P2P Protocol v7: Necessary for maintaining peer connectivity. Nodes will disconnect from peers using the older protocol 24 hours ahead of activation.
  • Retention Configuration: Use –retention-period-days to manage how much historical data to preserve. Default is approximately 30 hours (previously ~50 hours).
  • Enhanced Node Efficiency: Improved control over data storage and pruning due to higher block generation rate.

For complete details, refer to the Crescendo Upgrade Guide.

KASPA (KAS) Block Reward Decrease

According to the KASPA Tokenomics and emission schedule, a new block reward reduction has taken place:

  • Previous Block Reward: 61.74 KAS
  • New Block Reward: 58.27 KAS
