Unveiling the Devcon VI Guide: Your Comprehensive Resource for Ethereum’s Premier Event

Greetings to Devcon!

This is your Devcon VI Guide, containing all essential information about Devcon, the local area, and beyond. Pay attention as we discuss important things to consider prior to your journey, during your travel to the venue from Bogotá’s international airport El Dorado, as well as details regarding pre-registration timelines, community initiatives at Devcon VI, side/after events, and more!

Save this tab if you’re coming to Devcon; we eagerly look forward to seeing you all shortly.

I. Arriving in Bogotá 🛬

To begin, let’s discuss the initial steps upon your arrival in Bogotá.

Covid requirements 😷

Proof of vaccination or a negative test result is required for entry.

Please stay informed here, or consult your home country’s embassy website as requirements may vary. Also, take note that your airline or transport service might have additional stipulations.

Entering the country 🇨🇴

Return flight

You’ll need to present a ticket for your return flights to enter Colombia. Occasionally, they might request it, and other times not; thus, it’s wise to reserve your travels accordingly.

Pro tip: Some travel websites, like Priceline, allow bookings that can be canceled within 24 hours for a full refund in case your plans alter.

Check-Mig

Between 24 hours and 1 hour before takeoff, it’s necessary to complete the ‘Check-Mig’ form, accessible on the Migración Colombia portal. You will receive a confirmation email to display upon your arrival in Colombia.

Safety 👷‍♀️

A common saying in Bogotá is: “No dar papaya” = “Don’t give papaya (to thieves)”. It fundamentally suggests not to make yourself an apparent target: exercise common sense while in Bogotá. This entails:

  • Be mindful of your surroundings, staying aware rather than engrossed in your phone.
  • Avoid wearing ostentatious items like costly watches, gold-plated wallets, or loudly branded crypto merchandise.
  • Refrain from displaying your phone or laptop unless absolutely necessary.
  • As it’s a large city, store valuables (passport, excess cash/cards) safely at your hotel.
  • Utilize Uber or DiDi, where a 20-minute ride costs about $3 USD. Steer clear of hailing street taxis; opt for reputable services with ratings, ensuring to match the plates you see in the app.
  • Tip: Consider paying a little extra for a more comfortable “Uber Comfort” (recommended when coming from the Airport)
  • Avoid walking alone at night (Reminder: Ride Sharing is affordable & convenient).

Weather ☀️

Situated at an elevation of 2,600m, Bogotá’s temperature ranges from 9° – 18° C (or 48° – 65° F) without significant wind. Nevertheless, don’t forget to bring jackets and rain gear, as rain showers can occur!

Where to stay in Bogotá? 🏠

We have some suggestions for areas near the venue in our Bogotá City Guide. Chapinero, Parkway / La Soledad, and La Candelaria are excellent districts, but always verify travel times between possible accommodations and the event location.

Web3 Travel booking 🏨

If you haven’t secured your lodging yet, look into one of the community initiatives surrounding Devcon: Windingtree is a platform enabling you to book accommodations in Bogotá using stablecoins.

To embark on your first web3 travel experience, please consult their guide or ask any questions on the Windingtree Discord:discord.gg/MTYEm2BfWS.

Electricity 🔌

In Colombia, power outlets are Type A (two pins) and Type B (three pins). It’s advisable to carry an adapter if necessary!

Currency exchange 💶

The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). You can exchange cash or withdraw from ATMs at the Airport.

You can check the exchange rates here.

Translation apps 📱

We suggest using Spanish Dict, DeepL, or Google Translate.

II. Transit 🚙

Most attendees will be arriving shortly, and we want to ensure you can navigate to the Devcon venue with ease.

The majority of individuals will land at Bogotá’s airport, El Dorado International Airport (BOG). From there, there are several straightforward methods to reach the Agora Bogotá Convention Center, where Devcon will occur.

We recommend utilizing Uber and requesting an “Uber Comfort” or cabify from the airport to your accommodation. Ubers are affordable and are the safest mode of transport. If you choose an Uber Comfort, it will collect you from the second floor ‘Arrivals’level of the Airport, second lane, at the entry you select.

A Devcon logistics crew will be present at the airport to assist you starting on October 8th. You will be able to identify them by their attire (more details will follow shortly).

IV. Venue and Experiences 🏢

a. Welcome to the Agora Bogotá Convention Center 🙏

The Agora is a contemporary and fully equipped facility, located just a few minutes from Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport and from the historic neighborhoods of Santa Fe and Candelaria.

We have an array of distinctive activities and spaces for everyone to anticipate both inside and outside the main venue, featuring a busy schedule across various stages, a broad selection of food options, and additional experiences.

Let’s kick off these experiences!

POAP 🏆

Claim your collectible ERC-721 token at registration to verify your presence at Devcon!

Colombian Chiva 🚌

All Ethereum communities in LATAM are collaborating to showcase how Ethereum has been influencing communities across Latin America. The ETH LATAM and ETH Colombia communities will create a lively atmosphere with their Colombian “Chiva” bus. You can find the colorful vehicle parked outside the Devcon venue, in the outdoor space on the 1st floor.

Music Stage 🎸 & Chiva Lounge 🪩

Next to the Chiva bus, the music stage – another community initiative – awaits your arrival. There will be daily programming with breaks from 11AM to 9PM.

Discover the program, introductions to all performers, and further details about the Chiva Lounge here.

Throughout the day, there will be gentle jamming, sound healing, and silent DJing. In the evenings post 5PM, you can expect some main performances with local beverages and DJs to energize you in the relatively cool nights of Bogotá.

Art at Devcon 🎨

Rituals, shamanism, enchantment, and enigma are reflected in the identity of Latin America. Coding, hacking, and technology at large have become instruments for new generations to decode and recreate the digital narrative of Latin America.

“RITUALES – Latinamerica decoded” is an NFT showcase at Devcon that highlights the creations of digital & electronic artists from Latin America who utilize blockchain to amplify the influence of their artwork while presenting a critical perspective on their environment, also seeking innovative approaches to restore & recalibrate our ties with nature and the universe.

We encourage you to explore the _Hacker Basement_ where you can enjoy the works of 13 chosen artists as well as live acts and engaging installations.

Hacker Basement 🕵️‍♀️

The hacker basement will serve as your concentrated area away from the bustling conference activities. It creates the optimal environment for participants to experiment with new dapps on their laptops, gain knowledge, or brainstorm fresh concepts in a collective setting.

All essentials for a hacker will be provided: comfortable seating, power outlets, internet access, and, undoubtedly, cyberpunk illumination alongside low-fi beats to set the tone for creativity!

Reserve a meeting room 👥

Meeting spaces of varying capacities will be at your disposal in the venue on conference days 2, 3, and 4. They can be found on the 5th floor and will be bookable on a first-come-first-served basis at the beginning of each day.

“Devcon After Dark” 🌝

For the inaugural time in Devcon’s history, we will keep the venue open late. Rather than ushering every attendee out of the building at 5PM on the dot, we will maintain the venue open until 11PM to offer a space for ongoing collaboration, live music, game evenings, a Happy Hour each day from 6-8 PM & more!

Share and propose community activities in the Forum.

You can find a summary of Devcon After Dark activities here. Please remember that this program is still a Work-in-Progress and more features will be added over time!

This year, we aim to promote collaboration, networking, exchange, creativity, innovation, experimentation, and leisure through multiple spaces specifically dedicated to these activities.

Community Hubs are designated areas at the Devcon venue driven by the community for the community. By enabling various communities to create, discuss, and present the content of their choosing, we pave the way for a more decentralized Devcon.

There will be six different hubs, each concentrating on significant and pertinent topics with their own curated schedules, exciting opportunities to learn and experience something new. You can find the Community Hubs section on Floor 1!

Meet this year’s Community Hubs:

  • Crypto Economics & Governance Hub
  • Design Community Hub
  • ReGen Hub
  • Temporary Anonymous Zone
  • Women Leaders in Web3
  • Zero Knowledge Community

Treasure Hunt 🏆

“No Time to DAI” is a narrative-driven treasure hunt challenge scattered throughout Devcon (and beyond) in Bogota. Participants can interact with a browser-compatible mobile wallet dapp, which will keep track of all players’ progress on the blockchain.

To participate, you need to locate clue #0 within the devcon venue. Light role-playing is encouraged, inquisitiveness and meticulousness are essential, and some knowledge of crypto is advantageous.

Advanced and/or competitive players must stay ahead of the time curve to accomplish victory. Hundreds of ETH are concealed throughout the game, waiting to be claimed on the Görl testnet! Görli ETH is necessary to participate.

Participants can seek assistance/hints in the Discord: https://discord.gg/4PVZzNdsnW

Carbon Offsetting for Devcon VI 🌳

The community initiative, “Climate Friendly Devcon VI Dapp” allows you to offset your carbon dioxide emissions resulting from attending Devcon.

Upon reaching a departure airport, the dapp calculates your flight emissions and adds it to the projected event emission per individual. All transactions are processed entirely on-chain.

You may instantly mint a unique POAP for participation in the Devcon community offset.

Following Devcon VI, the POAP also grants you the ability to vote on which nature conservation initiative to retire carbon credits from. Could it be the Indigenous Reservation of the Matavén Forest in Colombia…?

You can offset your flight and acquire the POAP here!

This effort has emerged from over 2 years of community dialogue and execution of DIP-17, which was founded on DIP-1 and DIP-12.

For additional information, see the FAQ here.

Cryptomurals 🖼

CRYPTOMURALS seeks to safeguard the cultural legacy of the finest street art across the globe.

For the first occasion, CM is hosting the “street art hunt” during Devcon Bogotá in collaboration with DoinGud. They will conduct graffiti tours in downtown Bogotá over the four days of Devcon, allowing individuals to unlock the very first 3 cryptomurals thatwill develop an NFT that will be air-dropped to those who secured the 3 spots.
Individuals can enroll in the Graffiti tour & participate in the endeavor to evolve into a street art seeker through the CM website.

Ticket attestations / Minting exclusive NFT 🎟

This year, in partnership with Smart Token Labs, participants can now attest without restrictions that they were a holder of a Devcon VI ticket.

Employing this attestation, third parties can provide unique “permissionless perks” to Devcon participants while ensuring your wallet address remains confidential. You can also mint a commemorative NFT!
For more insights, visit the Devcon website, check the FAQ, and discover more information regarding Bogotá and the Devcon agenda!

Impact Booths 🌤

In previous years, booths were exclusively allotted for teams with substantial finances able to afford sponsorship packages. This year, we have dedicated booths to teams that greatly influence the Ethereum ecosystem, irrespective of their financial capabilities.

These teams consist of client teams, various groups enhancing Ethereum’s infrastructure, public goods initiatives, rollup projects, and selected other impactful projects.

You can find the Impact Booths in the lobby on the 3rd floor.

Public Good Supporters 🌻

We launched the Devcon Supporter Program instead of conventional sponsorships, and the teams that participated deserve special acknowledgement for their contributions to the ETHColombia Quadratic Funding Round @ Devcon, to Gitcoin, CLR.Fund’s open grants, and to the Protocol Guild (which aided in core Ethereum research and development). EF will also be involved in this initiative!

Our team extends a huge THANK YOU to those teams and DAOs that engaged in our inaugural Supporter Program this year without most benefits anticipated by sponsors. Their support for the Ethereum ecosystem was provided without advantages like reserved seating, extensive branding, speaking opportunities, designated event spaces, and other traditional sponsor benefits.

Cuisine 🥗

Anticipate the culinary options to feature a blend of authentic Colombian dishes and international cuisine.

We will strive to consistently provide vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, though we regret to say we cannot cater to all dietary requirements.
