Ethereum Protocol Hackathon: Partnering with Immunefi for Innovation

The Ethereum Protocol Security (EPS) Research Team is excited to unveil the inaugural Ethereum protocol Attackathon, sponsored by Immunefi. This month-long initiative seeks to bolster the security of the Ethereum protocol via a comprehensive crowdsourced security audit competition. Our ambition is to accumulate over 2 million USD for the reward pool, with the EF contributing an initial amount of 500,000 USD.

Assist in Supporting Ethereum Security

We encourage the entire Ethereum community — from projects to individual developers — to engage in this crucial event. Contributions to the reward pool will directly enhance the security of the Ethereum ecosystem, cultivating a safer space for users and developers.

The sponsorship initiative will conclude on August 1, 2024, after which the final reward pool will be secured, and additional details regarding the Attackathon will be revealed. Community members can become part of the sponsorship initiative here.

Join us in our mission to fortify the Ethereum Protocol and help us realize our largest Attackathon to date.

What is an Attackathon?

The Attackathon is a time-sensitive audit challenge aimed at strengthening the security of the Ethereum protocol. It commences with an educational phase where participants acquire insights on the protocol’s code through live technical demonstrations and instructional content from the Attackathon Academy. This stage ensures that participants are adequately equipped to identify and comprehend potential vulnerabilities.

Throughout the Attackathon, security researchers will actively investigate potential vulnerabilities in the protocol’s code. They will adhere to specific guidelines established for the competition, receiving rewards only for impactful and compliant reports. This phase centers on real-time problem resolution and the application of knowledge gained during the initial phase.

Post-Attackathon, Immunefi will assess and compile the findings into an official report. This document will outline the vulnerabilities identified and spotlight the leading researchers, acknowledging their contributions and expertise.

This event aspires to be the largest crowdsourced security audit, enhancing the robustness of the entire Ethereum protocol codebase.

Reasons to Collaborate with Immunefi

Immunefi is widely acknowledged for its expertise in web3 security, overseeing a substantial community of security researchers. They have safeguarded considerable user funds across numerous projects and have a proven history of detecting and addressing security vulnerabilities.

Immunefi’s Attackathons prioritize education and community participation. Participants gain from a structured setting that features live explanations on Ethereum and security, along with educational materials from the Attackathon Academy. This partnership aims to enhance the community’s understanding of Ethereum’s code and technology while contributing to its security.

Upcoming Security Challenges

The EF’s Protocol Security Research Team is dedicated to continuous security enhancements. We intend to organize similar Ethereum protocol security challenges at each hard fork addressing changes to the codebase. These events will be conducted on various platforms, offering diverse opportunities for the community to participate in securing the Ethereum protocol.
