Countdown to Devcon SEA: Only Six Weeks Until the Exciting Event in Bangkok!

Reasons for our Unity

Every two years, the Ethereum community unites at Devcon to work together and strive toward a more comprehensive, reliable, democratic, and decentralized future. Devcon is not about excitement or speculation; it focuses on constructing a more liberated and open society where technology amplifies human capabilities and resonates with our fundamental principles.

For a duration of four days, developers, community leaders, and innovators emerge from their separate paths and convene in one location to exchange insights, agree on the future trajectory of Ethereum, and learn from one another. Following Devcon, we disperse back into our decentralized existence, but the energy we generate inspires us to continue building.

What to anticipate at Devcon

Devcon is an extensive event occurring in a single venue for four days in Bangkok, Thailand from November 12-15, 2024. Devcon is distinct from Devconnect, the second gathering we’re coordinating.

The Devcon Week calendar includes educational activities before and after Devcon. We encourage organizers to schedule around the primary Devcon timetable, as we will not feature events occurring during Devcon days to maintain Devcon as the central focus.

Presenters

This year, Devcon attracted almost 3,000 speaker submissions, doubling the figures from Devcon VI.

Highlighted presenters include:

  • Vitalik Buterin (Co-founder of Ethereum): Delving into the most pressing issues at the crossroads of technology and society.
  • Aya Miyaguchi (Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation): Outlining her vision for the growth of Ethereum’s ecosystem and the Infinite Garden.
  • Roger Dingledine (Co-founder of The Tor Project): Sharing insights garnered from the Tor community, privacy-by-design, and the cypherpunk ethos.
  • Bruno Maçães (philosopher, journalist, politician, and author): Exploring how technology is reshaping geopolitics, where nations and powerful entities strive to create and control emergent global systems.
  • Hart Montgomery (CTO of the Linux Foundation): Providing perspectives on open-source project frameworks and community development.
  • Gubsheep (Co-founder of 0xPARC): Investigating programmable cryptography and its impact on dApps and the formation of entirely new digital realms.

These smaller activities within Devcon promote interdisciplinary dialogues concerning issues significant to both Ethereum and society by uniting specialists from various fields. Some major sessions include:

  • d/acc Discovery Day: Facilitated by Vitalik Buterin, Vincent Weisser and others, this session investigates the d/acc (defensive accelerationism) vision and emphasizes how we should prioritize decentralization and defensive technologies to craft a resilient future.

  • MUD: Autonomous Worlds & Onchain Games: Organized by 0xPARC, and Lattice, catering to those interested in autonomous worlds, onchain gaming, and other intricate Ethereum applications.

  • Building on Ethereum: BuidlGuidl will conduct practical sessions for both novice and experienced developers to construct decentralized applications and draft smart contracts. Participants will gain useful skills, receive guidance, and connect with fellow developers.

  • Programmable Cryptography: 0xPARC and others will illustrate how next-generation cryptographic primitives such as zero-knowledge proofs, multi-party computation, and fully homomorphic encryption establish the groundwork for a more advanced internet.

  • Formal Verification Gathering: Casual discussions regarding the security and dependability of smart contracts and software systems, facilitating connections between researchers and developers.
